How this calculator works
Use the coverage printed on the exact flooring product. The calculator adds your chosen waste allowance and rounds the number of packs up to a whole purchasable unit.
FormulaArea with waste \u00f7 pack coverage = packs to buy
Worked example
A 12 \u00d7 10 ft room is 120 sq ft. With 10% waste you need 132 sq ft. If a pack covers 20 sq ft, buy 7 packs.

Flooring Calculator FAQs
How much extra flooring should I buy?
Ten percent is a common starting point for straightforward rooms. Complex patterns or many cuts may justify 15% or more.
Why does the calculator round packs up?
Flooring is sold in whole packs, so a result such as 6.2 packs means you need to buy 7.
Should I subtract kitchen cabinets from floor area?
If flooring will not run underneath fixed cabinets, you can subtract those footprints. Follow the flooring manufacturer’s installation guidance.
Can I use this for several rooms?
Calculate each room and add the required coverage, or use the main square footage calculator first to total multiple areas.
